The Organising Committee is pleased to announce that the 7th Congress of Baltic Microbiologists will take place in 2027 in Tallinn, Estonia, hosted by Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech).
CBM 2027 will bring together researchers, students, industry professionals, and microbiology enthusiasts from the Baltic region and beyond to exchange ideas, present recent discoveries, and strengthen scientific collaborations. The congress programme will include a keynote lecture and 6 invited speakers, oral and poster presentations, networking opportunities, and discussions covering diverse areas of microbiology.

The Venue

The Congress will be hosted at Tallinn University of Technology, Estonia’s leading university of technology and science, situated on a green and modern campus in the Mustamäe district of Tallinn.
TalTech is internationally recognised for its strong research in natural sciences, engineering, technology, and life sciences, providing an inspiring environment for scientific exchange and collaboration. The university campus features contemporary conference facilities, laboratories, study buildings, restaurants, cafés, and recreational areas, all within a compact and easily accessible setting.

Keynote Speaker: Prof. Vasili Hauryliuk
Lund University and University of Tartu
Prof. Vasili leads a multidisciplinary research group exploring bacterial defence against bacteriophages and the molecular mechanisms of ribosome function, antibiotic resistance, stress signalling, and protein quality control through microbiological, biochemical, sequencing, and structural approaches.
Invited Speaker: Prof. Elin Org
University of Tartu, Institute of Genomics
Prof. Elin Org leads a multidisciplinary research group investigating the role of the human microbiome in health, disease development and progression, and drug response through genomics, microbiome profiling, and population-based approaches.
Invited Speaker: Dr. Vytautas Petkevičius
Vilnius University, Life Sciences Center
Dr. Vytautas Petkevičius leads a research group engineering non-heme diiron oxygenases for selective oxidative transformations. His work combines enzyme catalysis and sustainable oxidation chemistry with biocatalytic approaches to metabolic engineering and microbial biosynthetic pathways.
Invited Speaker: Prof. Julija Armalyte
Vilnius University, Life Sciences Center, Institute of Biosciences
Prof. Julija Armalytė investigates bacterial pathogenicity, antibiotic resistance, and virulence in emerging opportunistic pathogens. Her research combines molecular biology, genomics, and microbiology to understand how bacteria adapt and evolve towards pathogenic lifestyles.
Invited Speaker: Prof. Petri-Jaan Lahtvee
Tallinn University of Technology, Department of Chemistry and Biotehnology
Prof. Petri-Jaan Lahtvee leads a multidisciplinary research group developing microbial cell factories to transform organic waste into value-added products. His research combines metabolic modelling, synthetic biology, bioreactor technologies, and 3D-printed living materials to advance scalable industrial biotechnology and circular-economy solutions.
